This is Breaktime.

We’re building a future where no young adult is held back by housing insecurity.

We believe in young adults.

At Breaktime, we believe that every young adult deserves a stable foundation and a future full of possibility. We are a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to ending young adult homelessness through purposeful employment and empowerment. By hiring and supporting young people experiencing housing insecurity, we help them build income, confidence, and community. We don’t just offer jobs; we launch journeys.

Breaktime is on a mission to end young adult homelessness.

Breaktime’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by equipping young adults with the job and financial security they need to establish housing security.

Breaktime puts
young adults first.

Young adults are at the heart of everything we do. Their experiences, insights, and ambitions shape our programs, inform our choices, and guide the direction of our work.

OUR VALUES

We emphasize radical inclusion.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, safe, and respected. We work to build a community where all identities are valued and where belonging is not just a goal, but a daily practice.

We innovate
collaboratively.

We build better when we build together. Our programs are shaped by conversation, co-creation, and the belief that lasting change comes from learning as a team.

Every journey has a story.

Breaktime began with a question: what if a job could do more than pay the bills? What if it could restore purpose?

In 2018, two college students, Connor and Tony, were volunteering at a local shelter when they noticed something missing: stable job opportunities for young adults experiencing homelessness. The cycle of instability—lack of income, lack of housing, and lack of support—felt impossible to break. So they decided to start with what they could offer: work.

That spark became Breaktime’s core program, a transitional employment model designed specifically for young adults experiencing housing insecurity. We recruit and hire these young people into a supportive, paid job experience that combines real-world employment with personalized mentorship and life-skills training. Along the way, Associates receive support to secure stable housing, build lasting financial habits, and map out their next chapter, whether that's returning to school, finding a full-time job, or launching a career.

In 2025, we opened The Hub, our central workspace in Boston. It’s more than an office. It’s a home base where young adults gather for training, mentorship, community meals, and reflection. The Hub embodies our belief that transformation happens through connection. It’s where programs come to life, where new friendships form, and where young leaders begin to see themselves differently.

Since our founding, Breaktime has helped hundreds of young adults gain income, housing stability, and renewed confidence. But more importantly, we’ve seen lives change not because of handouts, but because of potential realized.

This isn’t just our story. It’s Emily’s, who started working toward her dream job. It’s Mo’s, who found his voice. It’s every young person who walked through our doors unsure of their future and walked out with something to build on.

And we’re just getting started.
