LGBT+ Young Adults

40% of youth experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ+. Breaktime is committed to affirming all identities and providing safe, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ young adults.

When young adults come out to family members who are unsupportive, they may be rejected or forced out of their homes. As a result, LGBTQ+ youth are over twice as likely to experience homelessness as their non-LGBTQ+ peers.

Family Rejection

The leading cause of LGBTQ+ young adult homelessness.

Many LGBTQ+ youth are forced to leave or are kicked out after coming out. When young adults come out their safety and stability at home may be compromised—especially when their identity conflicts with the values or beliefs of their family unit.

Breaktime makes a difference.

Finding stability can be hard—but you don’t have to do it alone. Breaktime connects young adults with paid work, mentorship, and community support to help build the future they deserve.
