Young People of Color

Systemic inequality disproportionately affects young adults of color. Breaktime is committed to supporting BIPOC youth with safe, empowering pathways out of housing insecurity.

Breaktime Cycle Graphic

89% of young adults

experiencing homelessness are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC).

Nearly 1 in 4 young Black men ages 18–25 who identify as LGBTQ+ reported experiencing explicit homelessness this year.

This stark disparity reflects a long history of structural racism, generational poverty, and unequal access to housing, employment, and education.

Structural Racism

Historic and ongoing policies limit access to housing, credit, and employment for communities of color.

For many young adults of color, housing insecurity is not just about a lack of shelter—it’s about a lack of opportunity. The U.S. housing system, built on discriminatory practices such as redlining, eviction bias, and income inequality, continues to deny BIPOC young adults equal access to the resources that support stability.
